Your Voice, Your Community, Your Opportunities

As a student at Swansea, you are automatically part of multiple communities – and it is up to you how you wish to engage with these. 

Your student communities form a key part of the way we communicate with you, to ensure that opportunities, events and information you receive are relevant and interesting.

In addition, it allows us to direct your questions & feedback to appropriate staff. Explore the tabs to find out more about each community, and our top tips for getting involved.

This is your broadest community, involving all members of Swansea University, including students, staff, and often members of the local community too.

Get Involved by…

• Reading through all updates from the MyUni Student Newsletter.
• Keeping an eye on the Swansea Student Union Events Calendar for events in the local area, and chances to take part in Go! Socials, Get Active sessions and CampusLife events.
• Join groups, such as Sports Clubs, Societies, Discovery Volunteering and other community groups.
• Add feedback and ideas for what you would like to see to the University Unitu board.

Your Faculty support teams will engage with you throughout the year to highlight events, opportunities and schemes relevant to all students.

Don’t miss out…

• We’ll post about events to your Faculty Community Hub on Canvas & put reminders on our social media – don’t forget to follow the Student Experience team @scienceengineering_community / @cymuned_gwyddoniaethpeirianneg on Instagram to keep up to date with what’s going on each week!
• Your Student Support team will also host a range of Support Sessions dedicated to information which is useful for you. Keep an eye on our Dedicated Support Sessions page for updates on events like our Exam Success workshops.

Within the Faculty, you belong to one of our four Schools

• School of Biosciences, Geography & Physics
• School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
• School of Aerospace, General, Civil, Mechanical and Electronic and Electrical Engineering
• School of Mathematics and Computer Science

Each School has an Academic Lead (Student Experience and Inclusivity Partners) whose role it is to respond to and resolve feedback raised by your Subject and School Reps.

Play an active role by raising your ideas & feedback to reps, or via your School Unitu Board.

Department & Programme staff work closely with students to offer relevant opportunities for development appropriate for your programme, and the working world.

Make the most of your specialists…

• Reach out to your Employability Champions for information on relevant Industry talks
• Keep an eye on your Departmental Canvas Hub for relevant events and support
• Attend any department listening forums or town halls, follow departmental social medias if applicable which tell you the latest on what has been going on.

We’ve been here before – but we know you haven’t, and your peers in your year group can relate!

Whether this is friends in your accommodation or your programme – this community is one who will be with you from the start to the finish of your degree.

Your Student Experience Team may on occasion run Events & Focus Groups specific to your year, keep an eye out for these chances to feedback.
