Applying Through the AFHEA PGR Supported Route

To apply you will need to be a current PGR student at Swansea University with at least 12 months experience of teaching in higher education. Prospective applicants should be employed by Swansea University and will require their primary supervisor’s approval before enrolment is completed. 

Graduate Teaching Assistants whose funding conditions include a teaching commitment are not eligible to apply through this route. If you are not eligible but would like to seek Associate Fellowship recognition, you are encouraged to apply directly to Advance HE. Please note there is a cost associated with a direct application. 

There is no cost associated with applying for AFHEA through this route. 

• At least four meetings with your AFHEA Mentor. 
• Working through materials on Canvas relating to teaching and learning, which can be completed at your own pace. 
• Teaching observations. 
• Preparing an Application Plan and a draft application, on which you will receive feedback. 
• Submission of your final application for AFHEA. 
• The programme will normally be completed within six months.

If you are eligible and interested in participating in the programme, you must first discuss this with your supervisor to ensure it is feasible for you given your progress with your research and the scope of your teaching activities. Your supervisor will need to note their agreement for you to complete the AFHEA programme on the progression system.
