Dr Jane Gatley

Dr Jane Gatley

Jane Gatley is a philosopher of education with interests in the aims of education, the curriculum, the value of philosophy, and teaching philosophy in schools. She was awarded her PhD by the University of Birmingham and worked there as an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow. Before this, she worked as a secondary school teacher in England for seven years. Jane’s first book ‘Why Teach Philosophy in Schools’ is due to be published in 2023 with Bloomsbury. 

Leah Owen

Leah Owen

Leah Owen is a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the School of Social Sciences, Swansea University. She is a specialist in the study of mass violence – genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity – with a particular focus on perpetrator mobilisation, securitisation, discourse, and bureaucracies. As secondary research interests, she has written on post-conflict justice, examining the history of international and national courts, and the fraught relationship between them, as well as trans issues in international relations.

Florence Currie

Florence Currie profile picture

Florence is a first-year undergraduate degree student in International Relations and French at Swansea University. She runs her own surf brand, working in creative media and journalism, and collaborating with the local Gower community. As the production lead, she manages all branding, media, marketing and editing of The Society Column podcast.

Megan Salter

Megan is a second-year undergraduate degree student in Politics and International Relations. As well as developing The Society Column, she is the Chief Editor of Swansea University’s Philosophy, Politics and International Relations academic journal, Populo. Megan plays a journalistic role and is one of the presenters you will hear in The Society Column.

Dr Gideon Calder

Gideon Calder profile picture

Gideon is an Associate Professor of Social Philosophy and Policy, Politics, Philosophy and International Relations at Swansea University. Lecturing primarily on social justice, children and the family, and political and social theory, his research has involved the application of political and social theory to a range of areas, currently childhood, co-production and aspects of social welfare. Gideon is one of the presenters you will hear on The Society Column.
