Further Information for Final Year Students

Your profile of marks has been considered, where a module is marked with ‘PV’ or ‘FV’ the Marking and Assessment Boycott Exceptional Regulations have been applied and you have been awarded a provisional mark. When your actual mark/s become available for these modules, your profile will be reconsidered at the next appropriate Exam Board. If your actual mark/s is/are determined to be lower, the Best Mark Principle will apply and it will not replace the mark that was confirmed at the June 2023 Progression and Awards Board and your classification will not be affected.

The board predict you are likely to receive an award when the marks become available.  This award will be confirmed at the next available board. You are invited to attend graduation to celebrate the completion of your programme.

Your profile of marks has been considered, however unfortunately as your programme is accredited by a professional body and you are currently missing too many marks, therefore the award board is unable to provide you with a classification or award at this time.  Your award will be confirmed when the marks become available and this will be confirmed at the next available board. You are however invited to attend graduation to celebrate the completion of your programme.

Your profile of marks has been considered however unfortunately you are currently missing too many marks and/or your profile of available marks means that the award boards are unable to arrive at an award decision for you, the award boards is unable to provide you with a classification or award at this time, your award outcome will be confirmed when the marks become available this will be confirmed at the next available board. Due to the number of missing marks and your current profile of available marks you are not currently eligible to attend graduation. 

Whilst some of your marks are currently unavailable due to the boycott, the Progression and Award board have confirmed that you may continue with your studies as planned. Once your outstanding mark/s become available, your academic profile will be reconsidered at the next appropriate Examination Board in accordance with the University’s Assessment Regulations. If redemption of failures is required, these assessments will be scheduled at the soonest available assessment opportunity.

Whilst some of your marks are currently unavailable due to the boycott, the Progression and Award board have confirmed that you may continue with your studies as planned and commence your directed independent learning (project). Once your outstanding mark/s become available, your academic profile will be reconsidered at the next appropriate Examination Board in accordance with the University’s Assessment Regulations. If redemption of failures is required, these assessments will be scheduled at the soonest available assessment opportunity.

The assessment regulations allow for toleration in up to 30 credits of failures down to 40% in non-core modules (subject to PSRB requirements). If you fail more than 30 credits and/or have a mark below 40% you will be given a further opportunity to redeem your failure at the next assessment opportunity (provided that you have not exceeded your maximum number of attempts). If you are pursuing a professional programme which is subject to PSRB requirements please check with your Faculty directly.  

Assessment are taking place as planned, so it is important that you continue to meet the required submission deadline. Unless extended, the current boycott action is anticipated to have ended by the end of September. Should the action be still in place, the exceptional assessment regulations will be applied. 

Please assume that any viva examination (oral examination), meeting or other progression review meetings will go ahead as planned. However, we recommend that you contact your supervisor or school to confirm. You should submit your thesis or any other work on schedule.  

We will apply an interim progression decision to your record to enable you to continue your research programme, you and your supervisor will then need to meet as soon as the boycott has finished to retrospectively complete your progression meeting. 

If you think that any of your marks are inaccurate and feel they may have been recorded incorrectly, you can query this in accordance with the Accuracy of Published Marks Policy.   

Alternatively, you may wish to appeal against your decision.  Please note that there are strict grounds on which you can appeal.  Any appeal submitted solely on grounds relating to the marking and assessment boycott or the application of the Exceptional Regulations is not likely to be upheld. Some of you may be looking to move on to further study, taking up employment, or just need some assistance in helping to explain how the boycott has affected your award at this current time. The University is currently working to the original dates for awards and progression. Students who have been impacted will get an interim provisional decision.

The regulations will ensure that academic and professional standards are upheld.

Degree certificates will be posted to all students, when available. Availability will depend on your outcome. Please ensure your home address on your student profile is correct. For those not impacted by the boycott these will be sent by the end of August. We will then send the remainder out when the marks have all been received and classifications confirmed. You will also be able to access an electronic version of your certificate when it is ready via your GradIntel account.

Industrial Action is impacting Universities across the UK. The University you may be progressing onto for further study with will have their own mitigations in place to deal with applicants whose awards have been delayed due to the boycott. If your award is delayed, Swansea University can assist you with communicating with them. MyUniHub will be able to provide an interim statement confirming your outcome. Please submit a request via this form.

For programmes leading to professional accreditation the University will work with the appropriate bodies to confirm requirements and acceptable moderations. The Exceptional Assessment Regulations can be found here. 

If you need your degree outcome to apply for further study or because you have a job offer that is conditional on you achieving a particular classification Swansea University will support you in engaging and communicating with the University or Employer to explain the situation. Please submit a request to MyUniHub via this form.

Eligibility to attend Graduation will be detailed on your intranet profile. Click Course Details, then 2022 Modules to find your Level Decision. There will be a link to click through to find a document detailing what your outcome means, including your Graduation eligibility. Make sure to read the document thoroughly. Yes, you may request to defer your ceremony until your Award has been confirmed by emailing graddeferral@swansea.ac.uk by 10.00am on Monday 10 July 2023. The next scheduled ceremonies will be held in December 2023 at the Bay Campus.

If you have received an award predicted decision, Student Compliance Services will contact you with further information about your eligibility for the Graduate Route. We may not immediately be able to report your eligibility for the Graduate Route, however we are committed to supporting International students who may be affected by the MAB. We will seek to be able to confirm your award before your current visa expires.

If you have received a Provisional Award decision, in most cases we will be able to confirm your eligibility for the Graduate Route to UKVI, subject to you meeting all of the requirements for the route.  You do not need to tell us that you have received this decision.  Student Compliance Services will send confirmation by email when we have reported your eligibility containing the informtion you will require to make your Graduate Route application.
