Extending your student route (previously Tier 4) Visa

Before you extend your student route (previously Tier 4) visa you will need a CAS number to support your student route (previously Tier 4) visa application form. You must request your CAS before you start to complete your visa application form as you will need to include key information as stated on your CAS statement, such as the unique CAS number that confirms Swansea University will remain your student route (previously Tier 4) sponsor.

Students cannot extend their student route (previously Tier 4) visa without having a valid CAS. In addition to the CAS, students must also provide the UKVI with evidence that they hold sufficient funds to cover the course fees and monthly living costs for up to one year. New CAS for Continuing Students

Continuing students wishing to extend or renew their student route visa (previously Tier 4) can apply for a new CAS number from Student Compliance Services (SCS).

When to request a new CAS

If you are a continuing student wishing to extend your leave to complete your programme of study it may be due to:

returning from a period of authorised suspension
repeating or resitting previously failed modules
transferring programme to an integrated degree programme
downgrading from an integrated degree programme
PhD extension due to extension of candidature / prepare for and undertake a viva voce examination / complete corrections ( 3, 6, 12 months) / re-submit thesis
Transferring to another degree programme that requires further leave.

How to request a new CAS number

If you are applying to extend your leave inside the UK, you should request a CAS from ISCU three months before your current leave expires.

1	Please contact the International Student Compliance Unit to request a CAS application at cas.compliance@swansea.ac.uk including your full name and student number.
2	You will then be sent a CAS application that will need to be fully completed and returned at your convenience along with copies of your current passport and any UK visas used to study in the UK.
3	After submitting your CAS application and supporting documents, ISCU will send you a student pro-forma that will need to be checked, signed, dated and returned.
4	Returning the student pro-forma will enable your CAS to be drafted, added to the bundle and forwarded to a senior manager for final approval.
5	Once your CAS has been approved, your CAS will be assigned and information will be submitted to the Home Office.
6	You will then receive an email confirming your new CAS number which can then be added to your online student route (previously Tier 4) application prior to submitting.

*The CAS issuance processing time can be extended when handling complex cases that require further inquiries or delays with collation of key documentation.

CAS Policy for Continuing Students Already Enrolled on a Programme of Study

Our Policy governing student sponsorship of current students pursues to maintain Swansea University’s compliance with Home Office/UKVI student route (previously Tier 4) Sponsor Guidance. Any enrolled student that wishes to extend their student route visa, or switch into the student route category, must ensure they fulfil the requirements of the Home Office and Swansea University prior to a CAS being issued.
