A Year in Industry is an opportunity to spend a year in employment during your studies, and is available to all undergraduate students studying within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

It will provide you with invaluable experience in the real working world and will help you develop a range of skills which will make you an attractive candidate for jobs after graduating.

Our Year in Industry degrees are four-year degree programmes, where your third year is spent working in industry.

Year In Industry Student Experience

The 12 month placement is a credit-bearing (worth 120 credits), assessed part of a 4-year degree programme. This means that your performance on the assessment and completion of the placement will have an impact on your final degree classification, just as a year of taught modules would. If you are interested in getting work experience but don't want to do a year long industry placement, .

NOTE: If you wish to go undertake a Year in Industry in your third year of studies, you must complete and pass the Employability Skills Module as well as pass your overall studies.

So many students have undertaken a Year in Industry and have returned having gained fantastic first-hand work experience that has given them the confidence not only to perform well in their final year but to engage in the working world after University.

Academic

  • The skills gained whilst on placement will enhance a student’s learning and can be applied to modules in the final year of studies.
  • A placement is proven to have a positive impact on a student’s final year academic performance as students are often more focused and better prepared for the graduate recruitment market.
