You can choose which of the following workshops you would like to attend when you sign up.
WORKSHOP ONE: Hypothesis Testing
This workshop provides a basic introduction to statistical analysis of quantitative data, introducing data analysis and hypothesis testing: We will talk about the concept of Hypothesis testing, and the reason why this is an absolutely essential tool for performing our analyses.
WORKSHOP TWO: Hypothesis Testing in Action
This workshop follows on from the hypothesis testing workshop and involves working through some examples. Within each example, a data set will be given and you will be asked to formulate a hypothesis, pick an appropriate statistical analysis and interpret the results in relation to the set hypothesis. Throughout this session, we will be working in the programme R to conduct statistical analysis. Students will be encouraged to follow along on their own device. The statistical analysis will include some of the simple common analyses such as t-test, chi-squared and correlation analysis.
WORKSHOP THREE: Statistical Model Testing in R and Visualisation of Data
This workshop will be made up of two parts. Firstly, following on from the previous the hypothesis testing in action workshop, this workshop will take you through some more complex but commonly asked about statistical analysis tests: regression analysis. Working in the programme R to conduct the statistical analysis, students will be given data sets and we will work through the appropriate statistical analysis and interpretation (including linear regression and mixed model regression). The second part of this workshop will focus on visualising data, and students will work through how to best visualise the results of statistical analysis in a meaningful way.
