Personal Welfare

If you have personal problems that you think might affect your work, speak in the first instance to your first/primary or secondary supervisor. If the problems/circumstances are likely to have a serious impact on your work you might also want to put them in writing and ask your supervisor to lodge a copy in your Faculty/School file. This might help you if you then need to apply for an extension of candidature.

If you are uncertain about which way to tackle a problem affecting your study (e.g. academic or pastoral issues), you can always get in touch with MyUniHub: myunihub@swansea.ac.uk in Education Services and they will advise the most appropriate procedure to follow. If you still feel that a complaint has not been resolved, please refer to the University’s Complaints Procedure which is set out in the Conduct and Complaints section.

Financial Debt

It is important to keep up to date with your fees. You are expected to pay or make arrangements for the payment of your fees at the beginning of the session. Additional information regarding Financial Debts is available.

University Services

If you have concerns about your supervision or facilities and services in your Faculty/School, then initially take them up with your supervisor. If they are not resolved within a reasonable period of time, then refer the matter to the Chair of the Faculty/School committee which has responsibility for postgraduate matters: this might be the Postgraduate Committee, Higher Degrees Committee, Research Committee (or your Faculty/School equivalent). If the Chair of that committee has not resolved the problem within a reasonable period of time, then refer the matter to the Executive Dean. If this does not provide a resolution, please refer the matter to Education Services, who will help you by talking through your case and providing advice.

Use of the Intranet

Once you have enrolled with the University you will be able to log into the University’s Intranet system to check the details of your candidature record, obtain information and download forms you may need. The Intranet also provides e-mail links which you can use to communicate with Education Services and also inform the University of changes to your personal information, for example to notify Residential Services of a change in your address.

Swansea University Intranet

  • You will need to log in first. Go to the boxes at top right of the page, and type in your Username (your 6-digit University Student ID number);
  • Type in your password (for first use, follow the instructions on screen);
  • Select the information or procedure you require (e.g. 'academic record').

Supervision

You should expect to have effective supervision arrangements which provide you with regular, high quality, support, advice and guidance during the pursuit of your research degree award. Please refer to the Guide to Postgraduate Research Supervision.
