Departure Information

Time to move out of your University accommodation?

We hope that you have enjoyed your time living in Swansea University residences.

Below are a few pointers to help with your departure. As you are responsible for the condition of your room and communal areas of your floor, flat or house until the end of your contract, we have put together a checklist of things you need to do before you leave.

Don't forget, if you leave your accommodation earlier than your contract end date, your contractual or financial commitment will still apply.

Extend your Stay for the Summer

Apply for further accommodation following the end of your existing tenancy.

Departure Checklist

  • Clean the communal areas, such as your kitchen and bathrooms
  • Remove all your belongings from your accommodation, including your room and communal areas
  • Lock your bedroom door and the windows within your accommodation to prevent anyone from accessing your room once you have left    
  • Report any damage before you depart
  • Return any equipment that may have been loaned
  • Return keys to your Site Reception (or key collection box outside of opening hours) before 10am on the last day of your contract
  • Complete our Pre-Departure Online Check Out form

Forwarding your mail

If you have mail delivered to your residence address, contact your bank, credit card provider and other relevant parties and notify them of your replacement address. There are plenty of standard template letters on the web to assist you.

Alternatively, you can arrange mail re-direction with Royal Mail to have your post sent to your new address, or your home outside of term time.

Charity Donations

If you decide to have a clear out when packing up your room, you can donate your unwanted items, such as clothing, shoes, books, CDs, DVDs, accessories and bric-a-brac to charity.

There are British Heart Foundation charity banks on:

  • Bay Campus near Dolbardarn residence
  • Singleton Campus in the Preseli car park

Food, bedding and electrical items should be taken to residence site receptions for donation. It is worth contacting local charity shops or refuges in Swansea to see if they need items or are looking for donations. Working with local charities will help prevent excessive waste and rubbish.

Storage

If you need to store any belongings before you move in to your new home, there are a few storage companies in the area. We suggest you plan ahead and shop around online to find a good deal. The university is not liable for arranging this, or for paying any costs associated with storing items.
