PGR Awards: Celebrating our PGR Community
The PGR Awards are an opportunity to recognise the hard work and accomplishments of people across our PGR community. From academic excellence, to public engagement superstars, from staff who go the extra mile, to PGRs who focus on building their community and bringing people together.
Some of our awards are decided by judging panels as part of university-wide competitions such as 3MT, while those below are based on nominations from our PGR and staff community.
Nominations now open!
James Callaghan Research Award:
recognises the outstanding achievement and progress of current postgraduate students. The winner of the James Callaghan Research Award is awarded a £2,000 grant to support their research and development and a runner up is awarded £1,000. Each winner and up to 6 high scoring applications will also receive a laptop for the duration of their candidature. Students who currently hold a scholarship are not eligible for this award
James Callaghan Thesis Prize:
recognises outstanding theses that have been submitted. There are two prizes available, one for a Doctoral Thesis with a value of £1,000 and one for a Master’s Thesis of £500.
Students must be nominated by their supervisors for the James Callaghan Award/Prize, by means of the nomination form for the respective prize. Supervisors can access the nomination forms via the staff webpages here.
PGR Culture and Community Awards:
recognise the people who make a meaningful and positive difference to PGRs at Swansea by improving research culture, community, and the overall experience of PGRs at the university. There are two categories of award: one for PGR students, and one for professional services staff (not academics/research staff). Please note that students cannot nominate their supervisors for this award, as this is recognised via the REIS awards.
PGR Public Engagement Award:
recognises PGRs who have excelled in public engagement activities of any sort during their PGR studies.
PGR students or staff can nominate themselves or others for the Culture and Community or Public Engagement awards.
The deadline for all nominations is midday Friday 28th March 2025. Please use the links below to access the relevant nomination forms.
