Regulations for Pre-Masters Programmes, The College, Swansea University

The College, Swansea University offers a number of pre-masters programmes, which on successful completion allow transfer to candidacy of Swansea University postgraduate taught degree schemes.

All Pre-Masters students must enrol as students of Swansea University and pay the appropriate fees prescribed by The College, Swansea University.

As enrolled students, Pre-Masters students must comply with the University’s Academic and General Regulations for Undergraduate Degree Award Schemes as outlined in the Academic Regulations except where they relate to the award of a qualification.

Once transferred to candidacy of a postgraduate taught degree, the University’s Postgraduate Taught Degree Awards Regulations will apply.

Exceptions for The College, Swansea University are noted where relevant in the Academic Regulations and The College Handbook.

Pre-Masters Integrated Engineering Programmes

Modules delivered by the Faculty of Science and Engineering: students must achieve an overall average of 45% in the 80 credits of modules and 40% is the minimum pass mark for each module. Within the 80 credits, 20 credits of compensated failures will be allowed between 30-40%.

Modules delivered by The College: students will study 40 credits of modules and must pass all with a minimum pass mark of 50%.

Students will be permitted 20 credits of supplementary assessments in modules delivered by the Faculty of Science and Engineering, but a repeat year will not be permitted.

To be permitted a supplementary opportunity, students must accumulate 60 credits in modules delivered by the Faculty of Science and Engineering. In order to accumulate credits the modules must be passed at 40% and supplementary opportunity marks will be capped at 40%.

In the event that capped marks do not allow students to attain the 45% overall average that is required in the 80 credits of Faculty of Science and Engineering modules for progression onto the Masters programme, then students will not be permitted supplementary opportunities.

Pre-Masters Integrated Computer Science Programmes

Modules delivered by the Faculty of Science and Engineering: students will study 75 credits of modules and 50% is the minimum pass mark for each module. Within the 75 credits, 30 credits of tolerated failures will be allowed between 40%-50%.

Modules delivered by The College: students will study 40 credits of modules and must pass all with a minimum pass mark of 50%.

NB – The credit requirement for the programme is 115 credits.
