Coronavirus Guidance for School of Management Students

Yes. Our overriding aim is to ensure that all of our students complete this academic year successfully, and we will do all that we can to find flexible ways of doing this all the way through to the start of the next academic year.

You will receive regular communications through email, Blackboard, Canvas, this webpage, and other platforms over the coming days and weeks to ensure that you are fully informed and supported.

You will now be aware that we are not running any in-person exams before the end of August. This means that we will not be following the usual exam format for the May/June exam period.

Instead, the School of Management are looking at alternative ways to assess knowledge and understanding of the topics that you have studied. Once these assessments have been agreed by your individual departments, you will receive a specific email for each of your modules, confirming the assessment method and what is expected from you with regards to engagement in the assessment process. In the meantime, we would encourage you to continue to engage with online learning as much as possible.

All staff are well aware of the unique situation that we are all dealing with, and will ensure that assessments are set and marked fairly.

Keep checking your student email. You will receive specific emails with respect to assessment for each module but please take into consideration that these may not all arrive at the same time.

The School is maintaining close contact with the accrediting bodies and working with them to ensure that the alternative assessments will continue to meet the relevant learning outcomes.

The School’s Employability Team are now working remotely. However, they are still here to provide you with all the employability help and support you need.

All members of the team can be available via email, Skype and Zoom. We can provide the following via these platforms:

• Mock interviews/interview advice
• CV and Cover Letter review
• Suggestions for where to source placements and graduate jobs

• Information on employers that might be a good fit
• Assistance with any Year in Industry/Year Abroad queries

We will do everything that we can to make sure that our international student body can access all the resources they need to continue with their studies. Various platforms and options are currently being considered, and we will be in touch as soon as we can with further information. If you have concerns in the meantime, please contact somsupport@swansea.ac.uk. 

Bay Library and Singleton Park Library are closed. Online support for Library and IT Services is available from 8am-8pm every day by emailing Customer Services and via the Service Desk.

There is a helpful guide on using the library from home that the library has put together.

There is also information on accessing online resources from home and an Online Library which gives links to online resources along with help and guidance.  It includes links to:

• ebooks
• ejournals
• Referencing Guides
• Study Online - a range of online tutorials to support your study
• Temporary access to additional resources – temporary access to ebooks, ejournals and other resources that you can’t normally access at Swansea University

Don’t forget that your subject librarians are available to help – by email, chat, or video link (Zoom).

The staff at the Centre for Academic Success are also available. They can help you to improve your writing or develop critical thinking skills, etc.  All their courses, workshops and appointments will, for the time being, be delivered online.

If your finances have been impacted due to any unforeseen circumstances outside of your control please click on this link for further information on our Hardship Funds and to make an application.

Please note; Award payments are not guaranteed and all applications are assessed on a discretionary basis. However if your application is successful you will receive a non-repayable grant. This is not a source of funding and is in place to assist students in overcoming short-term financial difficulties, and to give student the opportunity to get back on top of their finances.

Due to GDPR (data protection laws we are required to follow), we are unable to speak to family members about specific student cases. However, we completely understand families are concerned, and we are happy to provide more general advice and guidance that applies to all of our students.

There are a number of self-help Wellbeing resources available to students, which you might like to explore: 

Our Welfare and Wellbeing teams will still be contactable, and of course you can always contact a Student Experience Officer for advice and support.

The mental health charity Mind has put together some help and advice for coping with anxiety over the current situation, and for looking after your wellbeing whilst staying at home.

Here are a few measures you might find helpful:

• Try to keep to a regular routine. Get up at the same time that you usually would if you were coming into Uni, and stick to your usual morning routine. Consider making a written plan of how you’re going to spend your time.
• Eat well and don’t forget to stay hydrated – a break from your usual routine might lead to you neglecting these basic needs.
• Take care of your immediate environment. Make an effort to keep things neat, and try to keep your work space and your relaxation space as separate as possible.
• Try to stay active! Take regular exercise
• Find ways to connect with other people. Stay in touch with your friends and family, and consider joining an online peer-support community.
• Consider taking a break from news or social media if you find that it’s making you anxious. Make sure your news and health information is from trusted sources.
• Make time for relaxation as well as work! Try doing something creative
