TASS - transferring mode of study

This page will detail the funding implications of transferring between full-time to part-time study.  It is the responsibility of the student to familiarise themselves with the changes to their funding.  It is also the student’s responsibility to liaise with their TASS mentor and/or their College to discuss the academic implications and processes of transferring.

Transferring full-time to part-time.

  • Transfers must be completed within the first four weeks of teaching. If you are in the Gold TASS programme, you can transfer later, however, this will result in further financial implications – this is detailed where relevant below.
  • Although you will be transferring academically, for the purposes of funding, your funding provider will retrospectively withdraw you from the beginning of the course year and re-enrol you as a new part-time student.  This means your full-time funding will be cancelled and you will need to reapply as a new part-time student. New applications can take up to six weeks to be processed.
  • Your funding entitlement for part-time study is significantly less. Please see the following webpages for current figures:

Student Finance Wales: https://www.studentfinancewales.co.uk/undergraduate-finance/part-time/welsh-student/

Student Finance England:  https://www.gov.uk/student-finance/parttime-students

  • As you will be classed as withdrawn, any maintenance funding you will have received will be classed as an overpayment and will have to be paid back immediately. For example, if you have already received your maintenance for September, this will an overpayment and will have to be repaid.  If you are in the Gold TASS programme and transfer later in the year you may have received more than one maintenance funding instalment.  All maintenance funding you have received will be classed as an overpayment and will have to be repaid right away.
  • If you cannot repay the full amount, you can contact the Student Loans Company to arrange a payment plan. Their contact details are on the following webpage: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/contact-slc-repayment-enquiries
  • If you choose to transfer from full-time to part-time, please be aware that you will have to complete a full level before you can transfer back. A full level at part-time is two years.

Transferring part-time to full-time

  • You can only transfer back to full-time if you have completed the relevant level. At part-time, this will take two years.
  • Transfers must be completed within the first four weeks of teaching. *Please contact Money@CampusLife if you are in the Gold TASS Programme.
