This course is suitable for postgraduate research students who are interested in gaining paid employment with the Centre for Academic Success as a Peer Writing Advisor. It focuses on the skills, techniques and processes required to successfully hold 1:1 essay writing appointments with undergraduate students.

Do you want to improve your writing skills and gain experience in advising others? The Peer Writing Advisor scheme can offer you the opportunity to:

  • Undertake free writing advisor training recognised by Swansea University Postgraduate Research Office
  • Develop and reflect on your own pedagogy – useful for HEA Fellowship applications
  • Improve your own writing
  • Enhance your employability record and gain the skills to articulate these skills to future employers
  • Gain an awareness of student services for use in teaching and beyond

Syllabus

Training will include the necessary knowledge base, 1-to-1 teaching methodology, and develop your pastoral skills and ability to signpost to specialist services when relevant. The course is delivered by lecturers from The Centre for Academic Success. The training supports the Swansea University PGR Training Framework theme "teaching and demonstrating".

Wednesday 26th June 2024, 10:00-15:00 (Singleton Campus)

SESSION TWO

Thursday 27th June 2024, 10:00-15:00 (Singleton Campus)

PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT

Tuesday 2nd & Wednesday 3rd July 2024 (time to be confirmed)

Once you have completed the training, you will be eligible to apply for a paid position as a peer writing advisor.
