This certificated course is designed to help you develop effective strategies to broaden your vocabulary. Through the presentation of roots, suffixes and prefixes, the course will give you the tools to understand new words by deriving meaning from their constituent parts. Additionally, the course will help you make informed choices when using words and improve your written accuracy.
Information: Modules that carry the AS- code are non-credit bearing modules. This means that successful completion of these modules by attending 80% of the course, will appear on your Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR).
Syllabus
This course will take place online, and is made up of the following one hour sessions:
SESSION ONE: Vocabulary Awareness
This week, a vocabulary awareness presentation will allow students to test the size of their vocabularies.

SESSION TWO: Prefixes and Suffixes
In this session, students will be able to derive meaning from uncommon words through identifying common prefixes and suffixes.

This class is dedicated to improving word choice.

SESSION SIX: More Etymology
A key piece of a student’s toolkit in developing their vocabulary is an appreciation of some roots which have derived from Latin. In this session we will continue to explore etymology, focussing specifically on Latin origins.
